Ada Hegerberg joined OL in 2014 and quickly established herself as a key player within the club. Thanks to her performances, the Lyon striker won the D1 Arkema top scorer title three times, in the 2015/2016 season (33 goals), 2016/2017 (20 goals), and 2017/2018 (31 goals). She was also the top scorer in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2016 and was voted UEFA Women’s Player of the Year that same year, before becoming the competition’s all-time leading scorer (53 goals) in October 2019.
In December 2018, Ada Hegerberg, nominated alongside six of her teammates (Renard, Henry, Majri, Kumagai, Marozsan, Bronze), won the first Women’s Ballon d’Or in history and continued her magnificent career with Lyon, extending her contract for the first time until 2021. With OL, Ada Hegerberg has built up an impressive list of achievements, winning six French Championships, five French Cups, five Women’s Champions Leagues, and one Trophée des Championnes.
Olympique Lyonnais is delighted with Ada’s long-term commitment and hopes that the continuation of this success story will once again propel the club to the highest levels in France and Europe.
Ada Hegerberg : “This is my favorite club. I wanted to extend my contract from the start because there was no doubt in my mind. OL has always been my number one choice. This gives me more peace of mind to come back even stronger now.”
Jean-Michel Aulas : “It is a great pleasure to be able to extend the contract of the world’s best player. It’s both a sign of good health for Olympique Lyonnais and an inspiring story for all talented young women who leave their country to join a big club and succeed in everything they set out to do. Ada has a great personality and we are counting on her to lead this team, along with all her teammates, to the highest level, as she has done before.“
