The left-back has had yet another excellent season with OL Lyonnes. Following her impressive 14th-place finish in 2022, Selma Bacha is once again in the running for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Selma Bacha is originally from Gerland and joined OL at the age of 9. A true product of Lyon, she signed her first professional contract in 2017 at the age of 16. The left-back has risen through the ranks over the seasons to establish herself as a key player in the Lyon squad. At just 25, the club’s 15th most-capped player has won numerous trophies with OL Lyonnes, including four Women’s Champions League titles. Last season, Selma Bacha also wore the captain’s armband on several occasions.

The Lyonne player featured in 28 matches last season and was selected in the starting line-up by Jonatan Giráldez for 26 of those matches. This is testament to the full-back’s importance on the pitch, not only as a player but also as a key figure in the dressing room. Her boundless energy down the left flank and her ability to drive forward played a major part in Lyon’s success in the French league, in the domestic cup competitions and all the way to the Women’s Champions League final.

Having enjoyed an excellent season in the Arkema Première Ligue, the left-back has been named in the league’s Team of the Season. Her performances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League also made a lasting impression, having played nine matches during the 2025–2026 campaign. Selma Bacha has been named by UEFA as the left-back in the Team of the Season, alongside Wendie Renard and Melchie Dumornay.

Selma Bacha’s pace and run-up are two of the many strengths that enabled the Lyon player to provide 12 assists during the 2025–2026 season, across all competitions. Teamwork is paramount for the full-back, who has frequently delivered incredibly precise crosses to her teammates. The Lyonne player notably provided seven assists last season in the league, including three in the play-offs.
