OL Lyon is delighted to announce the arrival of midfielder Caroline Weir for the next three seasons. The Scottish national team captain is now tied to the club until June 30, 2029.
Arriving from Real Madrid, the Scottish player quickly established herself as a key member of the Madrid squad, racking up 125 appearances across all competitions. The Spanish club’s all-time leading scorer, Caroline Weir has distinguished herself in front of goal, netting 63 times, including 9 this season in the Women’s Champions League. A decisive factor in crucial matches, she was voted Real Madrid’s Player of the Season in 2023 and 2025, and the Liga F Player of the Year in 2023.
An experienced player, Caroline Weir was initially developed in Scotland before moving to England and joining Arsenal, where she made her Women’s Champions League debut at just 18 years old. Between 2013 and 2022, with Arsenal and then Manchester City, the midfielder won three Women’s League Cups (2013, 2019, 2022) and two FA Cups (2014, 2019).
Caroline Weir made her debut for the Scottish national team at the age of 18. In 2017, she participated in the European Championship and scored the winning goal in the third group stage match against Spain, giving Scotland their first-ever victory in a major tournament. Nominated for the Ballon d’Or last year, she became the first Scottish player to be among the finalists for this prestigious award. Caroline has a total of 120 caps and 31 goals for Scotland and has captained her national team since February 2026. During Scotland’s last international break, Caroline scored seven goals in two matches.
The club is delighted with this new signing, which strengthens Lyon’s midfield thanks to her clinical finishing and top-level experience.
