To kick off a December that felt like a true marathon, our Lyon women traveled to Dijon this Saturday. With five matches scheduled in just fifteen days, this duel, counting towards the 9th matchday of the Arkema Première Ligue, marked the start of this intense series.

In the 26th minute, our Red and Blue opened the scoring. Ingrid Engen collected the ball in the box before unleashing a powerful shot that slipped between the legs of the Dijon goalkeeper. A determined effort that allowed the team to take the lead (26′, 0-1).

Far from being satisfied with this goal, our players maintained the pressure and managed to extend their lead ten minutes later. From a set piece, Selma Bacha‘s precision made the difference, and her corner kick found Damaris Egurrola‘s head at the far post, who gave the Burgundy defense no chance (36’, 0-2).

Thanks to this technical and collective mastery, our Lyon players dominated the first half and secured a deserved two-goal victory.

Upon returning from the locker room, Jonatan Giráldez took advantage of the lead to rest his players and manage playing time. A quadruple substitution was made to start the second half. Ashley Lawrence and Sofie Svava replaced Tarciane and Selma Bacha in defense, while Lindsey Heaps and Jule Brand came on for Damaris Egurrola and Tabitha Chawinga.

In the 56th minute, our Lyon players quickly sealed the match with a superb team move. Jule Brand and Melchie Dumornay combined perfectly; the Haitian intelligently laid the ball off centrally for the German international, who finished the move to make it 3-0 (56′, 0-3).

Shortly after the hour mark, Melchie Dumornay, who was decisive on the third goal, gave way to Marie-Antoinette Katoto, allowing fresh blood to be injected into the attack for the end of the game.
