Right from the kickoff, OL Lyonnes set the tone by putting real intensity into their attacking play. In the 13th minute, Melchie Dumornay sent an early warning through the opposition defence with a powerful strike that hit the crossbar. From the resulting phase, Vicki Becho picked up the loose ball, but the Lyon forward was flagged offside.
Jonatan Giráldez’s side eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Out wide, Melchie Dumornay whipped in a superb cross towards Ada Hegerberg, who was perfectly positioned in the box to slot home and open the scoring (35′, 0-1).
Just before half-time, Lyon doubled their lead. In the 44th minute, Ada Hegerberg turned provider, delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Kadidiatou Diani, who kept her composure and calmly finished past the goalkeeper (44′, 0-2).
At the start of the second half, Jonatan Giráldez made several tactical changes to manage playing time. In the 58th minute, a triple substitution saw Wendie Renard, Kadidiatou Diani and Ada Hegerberg come off, replaced by Alice Sombath, Tabitha Chawinga and Marie-Antoinette Katoto. It was also a special milestone for Alice Sombath, who reached her 100th appearance in all competitions for OL Lyonnes.
In the second half, Lyon continued to create promising attacking moves but couldn’t extend their lead, despite controlling much of the game. In a continued effort to rotate the squad, two more changes were made in the 66th minute, with Selma Bacha and Damaris Egurrola replaced by Sofie Svava and Korbin Shrader.
The team head into their next fixture full of confidence ahead of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Wolfsburg.
