Directed by Stéphanie Gillard, “Les joueuses” retraces the 2018-2019 season of captain Wendie Renard and her teammates, a year marked by the treble of Championship, French Cup, Champions League.
Immersed with the team throughout the season, the film focuses on revealing the lives of the OL players, their daily lives as top-level athletes punctuated by competitions, from league matches to major European events, up to the 2019 final in Budapest.
SYNOPSIS
Over the years, Olympique Lyonnais’ women’s team has established itself as one of the best football teams in the world. From training sessions to competitions, from doubts to victories, this film offers a unique glimpse into the daily lives of these exceptional players. It’s an invitation to reconsider the role of women in sport: a world where the values of respect and openness will be the cornerstones of progress towards equality.
Officially presented at the Angoulême Festival on September 1st, the film will be released exclusively in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region on Wednesday, September 2nd, before a national release on September 9th.
