The IOC has decided to award Michele Kang the “Champions of Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion” trophy at the European level. The nomination was submitted by the executive board of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) to the IOC.
The IOC Awards pay tribute to “the outstanding work of change-makers who are committed to promoting gender equality, diversity and inclusion in and through sport.” Michele Kang was selected for her vision and her day-to-day efforts to advance gender equality in sport, whether in terms of performance, visibility, or economic value.
The award was welcomed by Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, President of the CNOSF, who met with Michele Kang this Monday. On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) organized a key event dedicated to strengthening the role of women in sport. Amélie Oudéa-Castéra and Annamarie Phelps (co-chair of the International Working Group on Women and Sport) also officially signed the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration, an international reference text aimed at promoting balanced representation of women and men across all areas of sport: governance, participation, elite sport, media coverage, employment, and more.
