From the very first minutes, the match started with intensity. In the 12th minute, Maïssa Fathallah made a decisive defensive tackle to stop the Nantes striker, who was going for a one on one with our goakeeper.
Up against a lively Nantes side, Christiane Endler also stood out. In the 22nd minute, the Lyon goalkeeper showed sharp reflexes to parry a close-range effort.
Gradually, Lyon took control of possession and were rewarded around the half-hour mark. In the 31st minute, Camille Marmillot scored her very first professional goal. With a superb strike, the young forward confidently opened the scoring (31′, 0-1).
Nantes tried to respond quickly, but once again Christiane Endler proved unbeatable. In the 36th minute, she produced a strong one-handed save to push away a powerful Nantes shot, preserving Lyon’s lead.
Defensively solid and clinical at key moments, Lyon deservedly went into the break one goal ahead, after a controlled first half despite a few dangerous chances from the Canaries.
On the hour mark, Jonatan Giráldez rotated his squad to rest several key players. A first double substitution saw Damaris Egurrola and Alice Sombath come off, replaced by Kelya Figueira and Sarah Rougeron. Just two minutes later, in the 62nd minute, the coach made further changes, with Vicki Becho and Marie-Antoinette Katoto making way for Oceane Moreau Tranchant and Jade Derigent.
Lyon found it harder to impose their tempo than in the first half. Less incisive going forward, they left more space for a Nantes that grew increasingly threatening as the minutes passed. The team in yellow and green eventually found the breakthrough, equalising through Julie Swierot, currently on loan at Nantes (86′ 1-1). Held to the very end, Lyon are forced to settle for a draw with a heavily rotated side.
Next up: Saturday at the Groupama Stadium for a European clash against Arsenal in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final. Come and make some noise. Our players will need your support!
