Our four new recruits—Salma Paralluelo, Caroline Weir, Johanna Kaneryd, and Mala Grohs—were introduced to the press.
Salma Paralluelo
“OL Lyonnes is a great club with a rich history and an exceptional level of play. I know I’ll be able to grow here. Playing abroad is a big change in my life, and I’ll have to adapt, but I’m not afraid. I know the coach and his approach very well, so I’m really happy to be here and to work with him again. I also know some of the staff and Ingrid (Engen). I’m very happy with my decision to join the club. I can’t wait for the season to start. I’m just as excited as everyone else. I’m looking forward to getting to know all my teammates and connecting with them on the court. I’m eager to learn French. I’m going to give it my all this season.”
Caroline Weir
“It’s a historic club that has enjoyed great success with an impressive team. I want to play at the highest level, so I was very happy when the club showed interest in me. My decision to join the team was therefore easy and obvious. You just can’t say no to a club like that. I was also at a point in my career where I needed a new challenge. I spoke with the coach quite a bit. I already had some idea of what his style of soccer was like because I’d played against him when he was at Barcelona a few years ago. His style of play and his success were also additional reasons for me to say yes. Soccer is the most important thing, but I’m also excited about moving to a new country and discovering a new culture.”
Johanna Rytting Kaneryd
“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it was an easy choice. I’m here because I want to win and play with the best team. I’m really excited about the start of the season and getting things going—it’s turned out exactly as I expected, so I’m thrilled. Yes, talking to the coach before signing was a factor. I wanted to know how he saw me as a player and how I could help the team on the field. I’ve played as a fullback several times, but also in other positions, so I can adapt to any role—except goalkeeper (laughs).”
Mala Grohs
“I realized I could join a great project, and that there were some great goals to achieve. I realized I’d be able to improve here under very demanding training conditions. It’s a team that often has possession and dominates the game, but I’m used to that because it was the same at Bayern Munich. But that’s fine with me. I’m a calm goalkeeper who likes to analyze the game. I can watch the game and make the right decisions at the right time. A lot of it happens in your head, so you have to think, and I really like that.”
