OL Lyonnes: A historic transformation for an exceptional club

OL Lyonnes: A historic transformation for an exceptional club

At a press conference held today at Groupama Stadium, Michele Kang, founder and CEO of Kynisca and majority owner of Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, unveiled the club’s new brand identity and strategic direction for the coming years. Key elements of this transformation include:

  • A new name to continue writing an unparalleled story: OL Lyonnes
  • A new logo, which will be proudly displayed from the start of the 2025/2026 season
  • A performance campus entirely dedicated to excellence in women’s sport
  • The relocation of all home matches to Groupama Stadium

This new chapter for OL Lyonnes goes far beyond a simple name and logo change – it’s about redefining what’s possible in women’s football“, said Michele Kang. “Our ambition is to set a new global benchmark for excellence, ambition, and investment in women’s football. This transformation fully embodies our commitment to offering the best to our players, our staff and our supporters.”

OL LYONNES: A New Brand Identity

To extend the club’s prestigious legacy at the dawn of a new era, the club today unveils its new name and identity: OL Lyonnes. This name honors both its membership in the OL family and the club’s deep roots in the city of Lyon. The subtle evolution of “Lyonnais” to “Lyonnes” affirms the club’s entirely feminine identity. This name change is accompanied by a slogan: “New Story, Same Legend,” which will usher in this new chapter and affirm the team’s renewed ambitions.

As part of this transformation, OL Lyonnes will proudly display a new, decidedly feminine and modern logo on its jerseys from the start of the 2025-2026 season.

The constituent elements of this new logo are as follows:

  • The lion’s body is replaced by a proud, roaring lioness’s head, representing audacity, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
  • The lioness’s flame-shaped neck evokes the shared passion of the players and fans.
  • The logo’s design intentionally blends rounded curves and sharp lines, symbolizing the power, femininity, and fierce competitive spirit of the athletes, who are naturally competitive.
  • The use of the iconic red and blue colors recalls the club’s historical DNA, while the new golden yellow brings warmth and energy to the logo.

The lioness wears a crown, a symbol of past successes (the team boasts an unparalleled record of 39 titles, including 8 European championships) and future achievements. “I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle balance between Olympique Lyonnais’ historical DNA and the evolution of the logo, with this new female emblem of a lioness that perfectly reflects who we are. The lioness perfectly embodies our warrior spirit, roaring on every pitch,” said Wendie Renard, captain of OL Lyonnes.

A Performance Campus entirely dedicated to OL Lyonnes

In line with its mission to support, promote, and showcase the most decorated women’s team in the world, OL Lyonnes will build the first performance campus entirely dedicated to women’s football, with a constant focus on athletic performance and the well-being of its athletes.

This campus will physically embody OL Lyonnes’ new brand identity. The site will bring together the first team, the reserve team, and all levels of the women’s academy. It will include state-of-the-art facilities specifically designed for female athletes, featuring typical Lyonnais architecture and incorporating local materials.

The campus will also house the first women’s football museum in Europe, a space open to fans and the Lyon community, dedicated to celebrating OL Lyonnes’ exceptional legacy in women’s football.

As part of our commitment to setting a new global benchmark for women’s sport and inspiring future generations, it is essential to create a unique environment where champions can thrive,” said Michele Kang. “By investing in infrastructure that matches – or even surpasses – the standards of the best men’s clubs, we are affirming that women’s football fully deserves its place on the international stage.”

For the design of this ambitious project, OL Lyonnes commissioned the specialist architecture firm F3, known in particular for its work on the training centers for the Tottenham Hotspur men’s and women’s teams in England. F3 is committed to developing facilities specifically designed for female athletes.

OL Lyonnes Moves to Groupama Stadium

As part of its development and to offer its fans the best possible match experience, OL Lyonnes will play all of its matches at Groupama Stadium, starting with the 2025-2026 season. The club will play all of its home matches in the Arkema Première Ligue, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) there.

With this historic decision, OL Lyonnes becomes the first women’s team in Europe to establish its permanent home in an iconic stadium, previously reserved for men’s football. At each match, Groupama Stadium will proudly display the women’s team’s new colors, fully affirming the club’s identity and ambition.

After gradually establishing itself at Groupama Stadium over the past three seasons—and breaking several attendance records in the Women’s Champions League—the club now aims to enhance the fan experience by offering an exceptional setting for every match.

This cohabitation agreement with Olympique Lyonnais Men’s team symbolizes a shared commitment to building an innovative environment where both entities support and strengthen each other in a dynamic of shared growth.
