Dominant from the opening minutes, our Lyonnes quickly took control of this semi-final against FC Nantes. In the 3rd minute, Jule Brand brilliantly released Selma Bacha down the left flank before she whipped in a dangerous cross for Marie-Antoinette Katoto, whose effort was ultimately stopped by the Nantes goalkeeper.
The chances kept coming for Lyon. In the 22nd minute, Korbin Shrader delivered a superb cross toward Marie-Antoinette Katoto, but the Lyon striker’s header drifted just wide of the post. A few minutes later, Marie-Antoinette Katoto once again showcased her technical quality by finding Melchie Dumornay on the right. The Haitian then picked out Jule Brand in the middle, but the German international was denied by Emily Burns in a one-on-one situation.
Still relentless going forward, Lyon came close to opening the scoring in the 33rd minute. Following another dangerous move, Vicki Becho saw her close-range header cleared off the line in two attempts by the Nantes defense. Despite clear domination and several major chances, Jonatan Giráldez’s players were unable to break the deadlock before halftime.
After the break, the Lyonnes quickly turned their dominance into goals. In the 46th minute, Vicki Becho delivered a superb cross for Melchie Dumornay, who powered home a perfect header to open the scoring (46’, 1-0). Four minutes later, the provider became the scorer herself as Vicki Becho doubled Lyon’s lead with a fine strike (50’, 2-0).
Jonatan Giráldez’s side then continued their attacking masterclass. In the 53rd minute, Jule Brand’s cross was pushed away by Emily Burns directly into the path of Wendie Renard, who headed home Lyon’s third goal (53’, 3-0).
On the hour mark, Selma Bacha produced another magnificent cross for Melchie Dumornay, who secured her brace in the match (60’, 4-0).
Unstoppable, the Lyonnes kept up their offensive festival. In the 66th minute, Jule Brand perfectly set up Lindsey Heaps with a cut-back before the American finished brilliantly with the outside of her foot (66’, 5-0).
Despite a major Nantes chance hitting the crossbar in the 70th minute, OL Lyonnes continued their recital.
Substitute Ada Hegerberg also joined the celebrations. After a foul in the penalty area, the Norwegian converted from the spot in the 80th minute (80’, 6-0), before adding a second goal four minutes later from a wonderful long pass by Selma Bacha (84’, 7-0).
To cap off an exceptional evening, Jule Brand delivered one final cross for Ada Hegerberg, who completed her hat-trick in the 90th minute and sealed Lyon’s emphatic victory (90’, 8-0).
The win secures qualification for the playoff final, which will take place at the Groupama Stadium on Friday, May 29 at 9pm. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
