For their second UEFA Women’s Champions League match, OL Lyonnes made a perfect start in front of their home crowd at Groupama Stadium. From the opening minutes, Jonatan Giráldez’s players imposed their rhythm and intensity. Ada Hegerberg quickly proved dangerous with a clear-cut chance in the 2nd minute, well-served in the box. Lyon’s pressure then intensified as the minutes ticked by. A beautiful team move initiated by Inès Benyahia culminated in a powerful shot from Ada Hegerberg, saved by the opposing goalkeeper (16′). Lyon’s dominance logically paid off in the 25th minute, with Jule Brand opening the scoring with a superb pass from Vicki Becho, rewarding the team’s technical and collective mastery (1-0, 25′). The Lyon players did not let up the pressure. Ada Hegerberg attempted a long-range shot in the 32nd minute, which grazed the post, before St. Pölten had their first real chance, which was authoritatively saved by Teagan Micah (39′). OL Lyonnes finished the first half by doubling their lead with a magnificent through ball from Elma Nelhage, who found Ada Hegerberg in the box for an unstoppable header (2-0, 45′). Lyonnes went into the break with a deserved advantage.

Upon returning from the locker room, our players picked up right where they left off in the first half. In the 52nd minute, Lily Yohannes, in inspired form, unleashed an exceptional long-range strike from midfield. The ball looped over the St. Pölten goalkeeper and nestled into the back of the net (3-0, 52′). Jonatan Giráldez’s players continued to dominate the match. In the 57th minute, from a perfectly delivered corner by Lily Yohannes, Vicki Becho found herself in front of goal, but her goal was ultimately disallowed for a foul in the penalty area (57′). Despite this decision, Lyon’s control remained absolute. Late in the game, the Lyon staff presented Sofia Bekhaled (84′), a young Lyon academy graduate, with her first European appearance.
Solid, focused, and inspired, the Lyon players managed the end of the match perfectly to secure a commanding victory. A second half dominated with control capped off a convincing team performance.
