For this new matchday of the Arkema Première Ligue, OL Lyonnes returned to the Groupama Stadium with the ambition of continuing their momentum and consolidating their position at the top of the league.
From the outset, Jonatan Giráldez’s players imposed their rhythm. It all started with the first chance in the 17th minute. Sofie Svava played a perfect pass to Jule Brand on the left wing. The German crossed the ball back to Marie-Antoinette Katoto, whose shot was cleared at the last second by the opposing defense. The first real scare for the Alsatian goal.
Just before halftime, Lyon’s efforts were rewarded. Ashley Lawrence found Vicki Becho perfectly, who produced a sublime piece of skill to get past her marker before beating the goalkeeper. (45′, 1-0). OL Lyonnes went into the break with a well-deserved lead.
After returning from the locker room, Lyon played with even more intensity and precision. Their high press caused Strasbourg considerable problems, making it difficult for them to play out from the back cleanly. Shortly before the hour mark, Jule Brand, unstoppable on her wing, delivered a dangerous cross towards Ada Hegerberg. Under pressure, a Strasbourg defender deflected the ball into her own net, gifting OL Lyon their second goal (57′, 2-0).
Our players continued to dictate the tempo, alternating periods of possession with sharp bursts of speed. In the 69th minute, poor ball handling in the Strasbourg penalty area allowed Jule Brand to shine once again. Our German player capitalized on this poor clearance to quickly score the third goal (69′, 3-0).
The end of the match confirmed Lyon’s complete collective control. From a Sofie Svava corner in the 84th minute, Tarciane rose above everyone and headed home powerfully to extend the lead even further, illustrating Lyon’s superiority in all areas of the game, including set pieces (84′, 4-0). Moments later, Lily Yohannes delivered a superb cross for Ada Hegerberg, who finished with a splendid diving header (87′, 5-0). A moment of pure class that sealed the attacking performance of a team brimming with confidence.
Solid, inspired, and controlling every attacking moment, Jonatan Giráldez’s players imposed their will from start to finish. Now comes almost two weeks of international break, during which a majority of our Lyon players will be away on international duty, before meeting again on December 6 for a trip to Dijon.
