OL Lyonnes will face London City Lionesses, newly promoted to the FA Women’s Super League, this summer in a historic match marking the first ever on-field encounter between two clubs from Michele Kang’s global women’s football group, Kynisca.
The friendly match will take place on Thursday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Groupama OL Training Center. Open to fans of both OL Lyonnes and London City Lionesses, this match will offer a unique opportunity to showcase the sporting ambitions of both clubs and strengthen their shared vision for the advancement of women’s football.
As they prepare for their first-ever season in the FA Women’s Super League, London City Lionesses will use this match to test themselves against the most successful club in the history of women’s football—a key opportunity to refine their tactics and integrate their new signings into a top-level environment.
For OL Lyonnes, this match presents an excellent challenge against an ambitious, up-and-coming team eager to establish itself among the elite.
“This match reflects our commitment to building a connected and empowering global ecosystem for women’s football,” said Michele Kang, owner and president of OL Lyonnes and London City Lionesses. “It’s about raising standards, sharing knowledge, and creating a lasting impact at all levels of the sport. Bringing these two clubs together is an important step in this process.”
Several of London City’s summer signings, including former OL Lyonnes players such as Daniëlle van de Donk, Saki Kumagai, and Nikita Parris, are expected to be in the squad, gaining valuable playing time in a high-profile environment.
Jocelyn Prêcheur: “Facing OL Lyonnes is a key moment in our summer preparation. Their legacy in women’s football makes this match a true benchmark for assessing our collective progress. It’s a valuable test – not just physically, but also tactically and mentally.” This match allows us to see how our new signings integrate and how our playing identity takes shape against a team with a clear and established style. It’s the kind of challenge that sets the tone for the upcoming season.”
Jonatan Giráldez: “We are delighted to welcome London City Lionesses to Lyon for this first-ever match between two Kynisca clubs. It’s an excellent opportunity in our preseason program to face a newly promoted club in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.
