Following their qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals on Thursday, the Lyonnes showed they remain insatiable across all competitions.
From the opening moments, Jule Brand was unstoppable from corners, first setting up Sofie Svava in the 2nd minute (0-1, 2′). Kadidiatou Diani then met the next corner at the back post, where the French forward squared the ball back across goal for Marie-Antoinette Katoto to finish with an acrobatic effort (0-2, 5′).
Ada Hegerberg, celebrating her 300th appearance for the club, also made her mark on the match. The Lyon legend saw her impact in the box rewarded with a penalty, converted by captain Wendie Renard (0-3, 29′).
Moments later, the Norwegian striker got on the scoresheet herself, reacting quickest to a cross from Sofie Svava (0-4, 34′). The inevitable Ada Hegerberg then once again won a penalty inside the area, which Marie-Antoinette Katoto calmly converted to extend the lead before half-time (0-5, 43′).
A ruthless display and total first-half dominance from OL Lyonnes.
With the tempo dropping in the second half, Jonatan Giráldez rotated his squad to preserve his players for the final stretch of the season. The Strasbourg side came out fighting after the break. However, it was Selma Bacha who sparked the first dangerous move of the second half, delivering a cross for Marie-Antoinette Katoto, who narrowly missed the target.
It was ultimately Korbin Shrader who had the final say. The American made her mark through the middle with a trademark powerful strike (0-6, 74′).
The Lyonnes therefore secure their place in the French Cup final, where they will face Paris SG in a rematch of the Coupe LFFP final. The match will take place on Sunday, May 10 (3:30 p.m.) in Valenciennes.
