At the dawn of the 2024/2025 season, the most capped player in the history of Olympique Lyonnais Féminin has chosen to extend her contract with her boyhood club. With a total of 477 matches across all competitions, Wendie Renard impresses with the consistency of her performances and, with each match, further cements her place in the history of French and European football.
Wendie Renard: “I am very happy to extend my contract with my beloved club. I arrived here at 16 from Martinique and I am 34 today, so naturally Lyon has become like home to me. I still have the desire and ambition to continue winning titles with Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, my teammates, and the staff.”
A key player in her position as a central defender, the Martinique native is also a valuable attacking asset for Joe Montemurro’s team. Sixth in the club’s all-time top scorers list, Wendie has already netted 151 goals across all competitions.
At the European level, she is the only player to have reached and surpassed 100 appearances in the Women’s Champions League, placing her at the top of the list of players with the most appearances in the competition (116 matches). Wendie Renard has also participated in all of the club’s Women’s Champions League finals, winning all eight of OL Féminin’s European titles.
At 34, Wendie Renard has been a key player in all of the club’s successes. Having played 298 matches in the French league, the captain has been instrumental in OL Féminin’s 17 French league titles, as well as the 10 Coupe de France titles and 3 Trophée des Champions she has won with her Lyon teammates.
Individually, the captain of the French national team (163 caps) is recognized as one of the best players in the world. She has been nominated several times for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award and has been named to the FIFA Women’s World XI seven times since the award’s inception in 2015.
