Groupama Stadium will host the 2028 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

UEFA has officially confirmed the selection of Groupama Stadium to host the 2028 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

Backed by the entire region, this major decision recognizes the commitment of the club, its owner Michele Kang, the FFF, and the City of Lyon to developing and promoting women’s football at the highest international level.

This commitment is underpinned by a shared history between the prestigious competition and OL Lyonnes. OL Lyonnes have indeed amassed an impressive record in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, with a record total of eight titles (2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022). The club is now more than ever one of the competition’s key players, also holding the records for matches played (163), wins (125) and the highest number of goals scored (542). Reflecting this legacy, the Lyon women’s team have built on this legendary heritage: Ada Hegerberg is currently the competition’s top goalscorer (69 goals), whilst Wendie Renard is the player with the most appearances (135).

Hosting the 2028 UEFA Champions League final at Groupama Stadium, the home of OL Lyonnes, is therefore a powerful symbol. Opened in January 2016 in Décines-Charpieu, Groupama Stadium – which is also home to Olympique Lyonnais – has hosted numerous international men’s and women’s football matches, notably the 2018 UEFA Europa League final, the semi-finals and final of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, as well as 11 matches from the women’s and men’s tournaments at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This selection confirms the Lyon metropolitan area stadium’s status as a premier venue and further cements its place in the history of major European women’s football events.

The Groupama Stadium team will work closely with UEFA, the French Football Federation, and local authorities to prepare for this flagship event and deliver an unforgettable experience for football fans traveling from across Europe.

This is a great victory for French women’s football and a source of pride for our entire organization. Hosting the 2028 UEFA Women’s Champions League final at Groupama Stadium recognizes the work accomplished over the years by the club, as well as the exceptional passion of our supporters. With OL Lyonnes, we work every day to raise the standards of women’s football. In 2028 again, we will do everything in our power to provide players and fans with a memorable event that will inspire future generations,” stated Michele Kang, President of OL Lyonnes and Olympique Lyonnais.
