The Opponent
Following the conclusion of the Women’s Champions League playoffs, the Lyonnes now know their quarter-final opponent. And it is a (very) familiar one: Wolfsburg. The two teams have met four times in the final of the European competition (2020, 2018, 2016, and 2013). This two-legged tie has all the makings of a European classic, as the clubs are set to face each other for the 12th and 13th time.
After earning a draw in the first leg (2-2), Wolfsburg eventually came out on top away to Juventus Turin (2-0). Lyon will therefore meet the German side once again, having already faced them during the league phase. Back in November, Wendie Renard and her teammates secured a 3-1 victory at Groupama Stadium.
The final bracket
Potential opponents for Lyon in the semi-finals will emerge from an all-English clash between Arsenal and Chelsea. Real Madrid, meanwhile, defeated Paris FC and will face another Spanish club, Barcelona. Finally, the last quarter-final will pit Bayern Munich against Manchester United.
