Finals day at Groupama Stadium! OL are looking for their 18th French league title. After being eliminated from the Coupe de France and the Champions League, the league title is the only trophy Joe Montemurro‘s players can win tonight. Against PSG, the Lyon players will have to put on a great performance in front of their home crowd.
For Eugénie Le Sommer D.’s final match, Joe Montemurro and his staff decided to start her on the left wing, replacing Tabitha Chawinga. The rest of the lineup was as expected, with Wendie Renard and Vanessa Gilles in central defense, Damaris Egurrola in midfield, and Melchie Dumornay, the in-form player, leading the attack.
The start of the match clearly favored the Parisians, who looked dangerous. The effective pressing from the capital’s players unsettled Lyon. Despite a few attacks, Wendie Renard’s teammates couldn’t find a way through.
But just before halftime, Melchie Dumornay broke the deadlock. Lindsey Heaps played a through ball to Dumornay, who found the bottom right corner. 1-0 just before the break, but they would need to show a much-improved performance after the restart.
The second half was more balanced, but you could tell Lyon wanted it more. Several attacks followed, but still no second goal. The game finally opened up in the last 10 minutes.
Kadidiatou Diani tried her luck from the right side of the box; her shot deflected off a Parisian defender and went in! Then came the penalty, and it was the club legend and captain who stepped up. Wendie Renard converted with a magnificent Panenka – a beautiful finish. 3-0 final score, Lyon are French champions for the 18th time in their history!
