After a first 40 minutes packed with chances, Wendie Renard opened the scoring: following a fine shot on target from Vicki Becho that was saved by the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, the captain was on hand to put her team ahead (43′). A deserved lead considering Lyon’s attacking output, which could have been even more damaging were it not for some excellent saves from Mala Grohs in the German goal. But Bayern Munich (eliminated by OL in the Champions League quarter-finals last February) put Lyon under pressure in the second half. Taking advantage of a scramble in the box, Lena Oberdorf finally finished off the move started by Klara Bühl from a corner (59′). The new team of our former Lyon player Vanessa Gilles was more than threatening during this period, which saw numerous substitutions from both sides. But it was ultimately Jule Brand who brilliantly made the difference, dribbling past several players and going down in the box. Kadidiatou Diani rewarded her effort by sending the German goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot (81′). Lyon thus regained the lead, before Liana Joseph, on her own, scored Lyon’s third goal, taking advantage of Mala Grohs’s save. Finally, new Lioness Marie-Antoinette Katoto also found the net, heading home a cross from Jule Brand. A hard-fought match that resulted in a convincing performance from Lyon, who secured a clear victory.
The Lyonnes will remain in training camp at the adidas campus in Herzogenaurauch until Saturday. They will face Eintracht Frankfurt (11:00 AM) on their final matchday in Germany before flying home. They will then return to Lyon for final preparations before their clash against Marseille (Sunday, September 7, 5:30 PM at Groupama Stadium) for the first matchday of the Arkema Première Ligue.
